Early Acceptance Programs

SEU's biology degrees prepare students for the rigors of graduate studies and the healthcare profession.

Our Problem Based Learning (PBL) courses give students the opportunity to use clinical critical thinking skills to solve real-life patient problems. The PBL model is the pedagogy used by many schools to apply and advance clinical learning. These methods are used in conjunction with our state-of-the-art Anatomage Table, which contains 3D digital models of real human cadavers. This allows virtual dissections, detailed layer-by-layer analyses, pathological case studies, and much more.

These program features — along with the support of our exemplary, student-focused faculty — have allowed us to establish the following partnerships.

Medical School Early Acceptance

In cooperation with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM)

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is one of the nation’s most renowned medical schools.

Students studying the biological sciences in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at SEU have a chance to apply for a seat in medical, dental or pharmacy school while they’re still pursuing their undergraduate degree.

About LECOM
  • High-achieving freshmen & sophomores are encouraged to apply to LECOM’s Early Acceptance Program (EAP).
  • Their application will be reviewed by the SEU pre-health advisory committee, who will interview SEU students and endorse chosen candidates.
  • Endorsed students will then be interviewed by LECOM for acceptance into their graduate program of choice.
  • Students may attend LECOM at their campus in Bradenton, Florida, or in their Pennsylvania campuses located in Erie or Seton Hill.
  • Admission to LECOM through the medical or pharmacy EAP is not contingent on graduate testing (MCAT, PCAT) scores.
  • Dental school applicants will need to take the DAT prior to entering the program at LECOM.
  • Each spring semester, a total of 15 SEU freshman and sophomore students will be guaranteed acceptance into the medical, pharmacy or dental school at LECOM annually.
  • Five students can be admitted to each of the three schools (Medical, Pharmacy, Dental).
  • In addition to maintaining a GPA of 3.4 or higher, students who are accepted into the program must maintain full-time enrollment and complete their undergraduate degree at SEU.
  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher in all courses designated by RUSVM as prerequisites for admission
  • No D or F grades in prerequisite courses for RUSVM
  • A score in the 20th percentile or better in each category of the GRE
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from an academic instructor and one from a veterinarian familiar with the student’s job/volunteer performance
  • A minimum of 150 hours of experience working/volunteering in a professional veterinary practice working with animals (large or small) or conducting veterinary research
  • A personal essay of interest and experience with veterinary medicine
  • An interview with a RUSVM admissions representative
  • Completion of the following prerequisite coursework:
    • Biology I & II (with lab)
    • General Chemistry I (with lab)
    • Organic Chemistry (with lab)
    • Cell Biology or Genetics
    • Physics I (with lab)
    • Pre-calculus, Calculus, or Statistics
    • Biochemistry I
    • English course
    • Nine semester hours that include one of the following: Comparative Anatomy (vertebrate/invertebrate anatomy), Medical Terminology, Psychology, Microbiology, or Nutrition
  • Interested students who meet the stated requirements must apply for this program through Ross University. RUSVM will then accept 4 applicants per semester (fall, spring, summer) to fill a total of 12 seats per year into their DVM program. 
  • Accepted students will complete seven semesters of preclinical curriculum at RUSVM in St. Kitts, with the last three semesters being clinical training at an AVMA accredited school of veterinary medicine within the U.S., Canada. Ireland, or Australia. 
  • Students may also choose to earn a dual degree of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Master of Science by Research.
  • Students who are accepted into this program must maintain full-time enrollment and complete their undergraduate degree at Southeastern University.

Veterinary School Early Acceptance

In cooperation with Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) in St. Kitts, West Indies, is one of 30 schools and colleges within the United States that are accredited through the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE). Their programs focus on tropical veterinary medicine, conservation of endangered species, preserving ecosystems, and researching zoonotic diseases.

SEU students pursuing a BS in Biology with a concentration in veterinary medicine have the chance to apply for a seat into Ross University’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Once accepted into the program, students may also choose to combine their veterinary education with a Master of Science by Research (MSc) program to obtain postgraduate level research training.

I chose SEU because the science program felt right. I knew I could acquire the skills I needed to work toward my end goal — to become a dentist and eventually an orthodontist. Dental school is a different breed of schooling, but with the knowledge gained from my classes and the mentorship of the SEU faculty, I’m prepared to succeed.
