Bio

Alisa DeBorde returned to her alma mater as a full-time English professor after over a decade in middle school, high school, and college education. In addition to teaching at Southeastern, she has taught at Polk State College, the University of South Florida, and Lipscomb University. Dr. DeBorde’s scholarly interests include trauma in nineteenth-century and modernist fiction, the representation of women in 19th-century fiction, and multiethnic American literature.

Dr. DeBorde taught in the Humanities Department at the Lakeland campus for eleven years before becoming a full-time online professor in 2015. In 2017, she became the Assistant Chair of the Foundational Core for the School of Unrestricted Education and Chair of Classical Education in 2021. Currently, Dr. DeBorde teaches in CCMA program and assesses for the SEU-Classical Conversations Plus Program. Graduate courses she teaches include Drama, Short Fiction, Rhetorical Theory, and The Novel, and she assesses English Composition I & II and Greek and Roman Literature for CC+.

Dr. DeBorde and her husband have four children: Mariva, Max, Cosette, and Fantine. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and running.
