Berhane T. Ghaim

Bio

Dr. Berhane Ghaim believes teaching is a calling and is delighted to serve his students and his discipline by bringing them together. Watching his students grow as young scholars reminds him why he fell in love with mathematics to begin with. He has been teaching at Southeastern University since 2009. He has experience in teaching nearly every undergraduate course in mathematics as a graduate teaching assistant at Kent State and as a former full time faculty member at Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio.

Dr. Berhane teaches mathematics courses at all levels. He studied functional analysis in graduate school and his PhD dissertation was on the Geometry of Banach Space Operators. His research interests are in functional analysis, measure theory, operator theory, history of mathematics, and mathematical statistics. Dr. Berhane has refereed publications in the following journals: the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and its Applications; Quaestiones Mathematicae, Journal of the South African Mathematical Society; and the Pentagon, the official Journal of the Kappa Mu Epsilon national mathematics honor society. He is a member of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences (ACMS), and the Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME), a national mathematics honor society. He has also published several refereed articles in mathematical analysis.

Dr. Berhane is a recipient of the Outstanding Faculty of the Year at Southeastern University in 2016. He serves as a faculty advisor of the Florida Gamma, Southeastern University’s chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon. He is married to his wife Alem and they have two daughters. His other interests include teaching bible studies in his native language Tigrigna, studying the philosophy of mathematics, and integration of faith in mathematics. He serves as an advanced placement (AP) calculus reader for the Educational Testing Service.
