Bio

Dr. Julie (Furj) Kuhn began her tenure at Southeastern University in 2019 and serves as an Associate Professor of Social Work. She brings over 22 years of social work practice in the areas of mental health, unhoused people groups, addiction, international social work, and HIV/AIDS.

Before she became a full-time faculty member, she worked in inner-city Philadelphia with women who were unhoused and dually diagnosed. In addition, she coordinated the Penn Center for AIDS Research Community Advisory Board, where she conducted extensive community-based health research and developed a passion for working with people living with HIV/AIDS. She also worked as the Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Franklin County, Ohio. She has presented at various national and international conferences.
Dr. Kuhn's research interest and doctoral dissertation focus on understanding how People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) experience social support in Evangelical congregations.

Dr. Kuhn has a love for macro-based social work. She teaches courses on nonprofit leadership, social work with communities and organizations, social policy, and chemical dependency. She is an avid traveler and has a passion for international social work. Before teaching at Southeastern University, she was a social work faculty member at Cedarville University from 2007-2018 where she created and implemented the international social work field practicum program on three different continents. She was the recipient of the Cedarville University 2012 Faculty Innovator of the Year Award.

Dr. Kuhn currently sits on the Social Work Advisory Committee for the Uganda Studies Program- Social Work Emphasis and is a Social Work Faculty Field Liaison for Living and Learning International in Quito, Ecuador.
Dr. Kuhn is a founding board member of Safe Harbor House, a faith-based safe house for women who are survivors of human trafficking. She is also a founding board member of the Greene County Housing Program in Greene County, Ohio.
