Kenneth J. Archer

Bio

Rev. Dr. Kenneth J. Archer is Professor of Theology and Pentecostal Studies. He has been teaching at SEU since 2011. Prior to coming to SEU, he served for 10 years as an associate professor of theology at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Tennessee. During this time, he and his wife, Melissa, served as co-pastors of the college and career ministry at Woodward Church of God in Athens, Tennessee. They also were active in foster care. He is committee to local church ministry and has served as the senior pastor of three churches. As a professional confessional theologian, he is committed to both pastoral and academic theology. Archer understands that spiritually healthy churches and ministries are the result of sound Christian theology and practice.

Dr. Archer has been a sought-after Pentecostal theological educator, which has given him the opportunity to teach at several seminaries and universities outside of the United States, predominately in Central and South America, but also in Denmark, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines. He is an active member in the Society for Pentecostal Studies, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the Academy of American Religion, where he has been a regular presenter of papers on theology and hermeneutics. He served as president of the Society for Pentecostal Studies in 2015. His monograph, "A Pentecostal Hermeneutic for the Twenty-First Century: Spirit, Scripture and Community" (T&T Clark International, 2004), is an important contribution to Pentecostal hermeneutics and theological method. It has been published in paperback as "A Pentecostal Hermeneutic: Spirit, Scripture and Community" (Cleveland, TN: CPT Press, 2009) and has been translated into Chinese (2016). He has published essays on theology, hermeneutics, and peacemaking in various peer reviewed academic and international journals. He has translated essays published in four languages: Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
