Bio

Dr. Leroy VanWhy came to Southeastern in 2006 after serving two years on the mission field in the Republic of the Philippines, where he and his wife worked with a feeding program for indigent children. Initially hired on staff as an admission counselor, he was promoted to various positions until becoming the associate director of admission. While in that position, he also attended school full time to complete his MBA at Southeastern. Dr. VanWhy completed his PhD in Organizational Leadership through Regent University.

Dr. VanWhy is married to Donna, and they have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren. For hobbies he enjoys kayaking, and both saltwater and freshwater fishing. He is a volunteer in the Florida Guardian Ad Litem and the Florida Veteran Mentor Court.

Dr. VanWhy is a military veteran and has graduated from many Navy and Army leadership schools, including Army Officer Candidate School; Army Engineer Officer Basic course; and Navy Leadership, Management, Education, and Training. Upon completion of active military service, Dr. VanWhy worked in construction engineering and design for a major National Defense contractor building submarines for the U.S. Navy. Additionally, he holds ministerial credentials with the Assemblies of God denomination.

Dr. VanWhy has traveled and/or lived in 11 countries, fulfilling various roles such as the communication coordinator of missions work to indigent children, Navy nuclear missile technician, Army engineer officer, etc., and therefore is well-equipped to teach at Southeastern with a global cross-cultural perspective, and experience in both for-profit and non-profit organizations.

Dr. VanWhy directs both the MA In Leadership and MBA programs. He teaches the following courses at Southeastern: Leadership Theory, Leadership in Context, Followership Dynamics, and Leading Organizational Change in the MA in Leadership and/or MBA programs. He also teaches Leading Organizational Change and Great Leaders through History at the undergraduate level.
