Christopher M. Fairchild

Bio

Christopher Fairchild has seven years of public accounting experience and passed the C.P.A. exam in 2001. He moved to Southeastern University in 2004 as the Assistant Controller in the Business Office, a position he held until moving to a full-time instructor position in 2006. He had always planned to get into the classroom, so he was more than happy to step into a full-time position when one became available.

In the classroom, Fairchild likes to show that accounting can be enjoyable, and he tries to make it both fun and practical by mixing only a little lecture with numerous hands-on problems. His favorite part of teaching is getting to know each student, in and out of the classroom. Though Fairchild expects everyone to work hard, he also expects them to laugh a lot.

He is also in charge of accounting internships, helping students put their classroom-learned skills to work in businesses of their choice. By using a variety of assignments, Fairchild helps the interns draw connections between class material and the professional working world.

Fairchild teaches the following classes: Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Quantitative Methods, Managerial Cost Accounting, Not-for-Profit Accounting, Advanced Accounting I, Advanced Accounting II, and Business Policies. His research interests include the impact of teaching tools on classroom performance, best practices for teaching accounting courses, and rating scale rescaling methodologies.
