Dr. Brunkenhoefer is an Assistant Professor in the MS Professional Counseling Program. She received her doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (CACREP Accredited). Her doctoral studies focused on counselor efficacy, multicultural counseling competencies, and counselor empathy. She has been an adjunct professor and full-time lecturer in graduate-level counseling programs for 12 years. Dr. Brunkenhoefer is a licensed professional counselor and counselor supervisor in Texas. She is certified as an EMDR counselor with a focus on treating trauma. She has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences. She is active in counseling organizations such as the American Counseling Association (ACA), Texas Counseling Association (TCA), Florida Counseling Association (FCA), and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).
Dr. Brunkenhoefer has worked in community mental health, serving adults and children, for over 20 years. She was an administrator for the local community mental health services in Texas. She has operated both group and solo private practices. Dr. Brunkenhoefer is a certified continuing education provider for counselors with the National Board of Certified Counselors and EMDRIA International Association. Dr. Brunkenhoefer enjoys hosting outdoor adventure retreats for therapists of all levels. Her research interests include nature-based counseling interventions, counselor effectiveness, trauma, and professional ethics.
In her spare time, you will find Dr. B backpacking the Appalachian trail or the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, hiking around national parks, fishing, and adventure-seeking outdoors.
