Bio

Katlyn Elliott began her career as a resource teacher for elementary students. Her educational journey began by building a strong understanding of foundational learning skills and best practices for Exceptional Student Education. She then became a teacher for middle and high school students with exceptionalities. This position was at a laboratory school and developed her love for leadership and mentoring teachers, and she later became the assistant principal at her school.

Dr. Elliott completed her doctoral journey with a curriculum product as her capstone project. This project incorporated all subject areas and Florida standards for exceptional high school students. This product was a curriculum framework that provided scope and sequence for teachers to know how to pace and instruct students with exceptionalities throughout their time in high school.

She has used her skills and experiences to teach educators how to create a safe learning space and turn a class into a family. Students cannot learn if their fear is greater than their confidence. Her philosophy of teaching is all about helping students develop a love and respect for themselves and others through an open sharing of ideas. Students gain a greater respect for their teachers, their peers, the lessons presented, and ultimately themselves when they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them. Setting fair and consistent rules initially and stating the importance of every activity, allows students to feel respect and ownership of their learning. Whether her role of leadership includes leading students, peers, or other educators she believes firmly in setting clear expectations, paired with high-quality instruction, which will bring about learning. Her goal is to help educators facilitate a learning environment that assists students in becoming contributing members of society while living a life that utilizes their God-given strengths.
