Stefanie is a Florida native and the proud big sister to two SEU alums. She began clinical practice as a pediatric speech language pathologist in 2002 spending the first seventeen years of her career working with children with multiple disabilities in both the private and public sector. Prior to coming to SEU, she was the lead assistive technology specialist for Polk County Schools which involved integrating technology solutions for students in the areas of communication and curriculum.
In 2019, Stefanie began teaching at SEU and in 2021 she became the program coordinator for the SEU program. This role allowed her two worlds to merge - speech pathology and her passion for Jesus. Her greatest joys at SEU are helping students master concepts in the classroom and advising students in one-on-one sessions. Her professional areas of interest include best teaching practices for pre-service preparation, severe/profound cognitive disabilities and autism, augmentative/alternative communication (AAC), inter-professional practice, parent education and language development using AAC.
She has a heart for the local church and loves to serve through prayer, teaching, and helps ministries. She spent many summers on missions in over 11 countries. In 2015, she married Gerardo, a native of Puerto Rico. She wholeheartedly believes that God can call people into a profession and to minister within the church because she has lived it. In her local church, Stefanie served as young adult pastor for four years before becoming the connections pastor and now she and her husband, Gerardo, currently serve as elders and oversee adult discipleship.
